Discreet, energy-efficient, attractive, high-performance… fans have a lot going for them. They’re the ideal alternative to mobile air conditioning for comfortable summer nights.

Article written by Alexandra Bellamy

The fan market is innovating, offering increasingly versatile appliances. Some are useful in both summer and winter. Others are multifunctional (fan, purifier, sometimes even auxiliary heating). Flexible, they can be easily moved from one room to another, or even used outdoors – some models even come with a battery. Manufacturers are also developing technologies to reduce energy consumption. Finally, to ensure the best possible comfort at all times of the day, these appliances are becoming quieter and quieter; in some cases, their operation is barely audible and does not cause any discomfort.

IN BRIEF

  • These devices are silent and often have a particularly discreet night mode.
  • They consume less and less energy – much less than an air conditioner.
  • Some models are designed to be used in winter too: they circulate the warm air, reducing the need for heating.

CIRCULATE

The Exhale is an astonishing bladeless ceiling fan with rotating discs. This patented technology creates a ‘vortex’ effect that spreads the air over 360°. Its motor works like an inverted aircraft turbine, sucking in air from below and distributing it in all directions. As a result, it operates particularly quietly (from 27 to 40 dB). It also consumes very little energy (from 2 to 50 watts). This air-mixing technology can be used in both summer and winter. In fact, when it’s cold, this fan maintains an even temperature between the floor and ceiling by stirring the heated air throughout the room. Six operating speeds are available. This extra-thin model – just 18 cm thick – comes in a version with adjustable LED lighting (warm or cool white).
